Haynes Boone is delighted to welcome Patent Partner Brian Gustafson to the firm’s San Francisco office. Gustafson spent more than two decades at Fish & Richardson P.C., where he was a principal for over a decade.
Gustafson’s practice emphasizes strategic patent counselling and prosecution in technology areas including computer science, cloud computing, electronics, semiconductor fabrication, optics, machine learning and visual effects. He helps his clients align their patent portfolios with their business goals to identify and protect innovations that secure technology leadership and provide the best business outcomes.
"Haynes Boone is a firm that is growing dynamically, presenting a great opportunity for myself and my clients,” Gustafson said. “The firm has an abundance of great people who want to help others succeed while engaging in top-notch legal work, and I am very excited to be adding to that."
Gustafson advises both large corporations and startups in computer software, artificial intelligence and semiconductor technologies, with a focus on aligning patent strategies with emerging technologies like large language models and computer vision. His technical expertise enables him to help clients protect innovations and ensure they support their business objectives.
“We are very excited to have Brian join us in the Bay Area,” said San Francisco Office Managing Partner Brian Kwok. “His extensive background in patent strategy, especially in AI and computer software, will be a tremendous asset as we continue to help clients innovate and stay competitive.”
Gustafson is the eighth partner hired by Haynes Boone in California since last fall, joining the likes of Dan Mallet, Jeff Morton, David Hengstler, Martin Florman, Paul Tobin, Elizabeth Weldon and Kevin Crisp, as the firm continues to further establish its footprint in the Golden State. The Haynes Boone San Francisco Office moved to One Post Street in April, highlighting the firm’s long-term investment to the region’s business and legal communities.
