Haynes Boone is pleased to welcome Insurance Recovery Partner Peter A. Halprin to the firm’s New York City office. A Chambers USA-ranked attorney, Peter joins from Pasich LLP, where he spent the last four-and-a-half years primarily representing commercial policyholders in a variety of insurance matters ranging from cybercrimes to natural disasters. Peter began his career at Anderson Kill, where he was the deputy co-chair of the firm’s Cyber Insurance Recovery Practice.
Over the course of his career, Peter has arbitrated, litigated, and mediated claims involving a broad range of insurance policies and recovered hundreds of millions of dollars in insurance proceeds for policyholders.
Peter is well-known for his work with high-value claims concerning issues such as business interruption, cybersecurity and wrongful death suits. His global client base spans diverse industries such as entertainment, financial services, government, healthcare, hospitality, professional services, private equity, and real estate.
"Haynes Boone offered the incredible opportunity to bring my practice to a global platform with vibrant and growing insurance and litigation practices, and a focus on expansion in New York City,” Peter said. “I am excited to join their nationally ranked and recognized insurance recovery practice, which is nicely complemented by their deep bench of top national and international litigation, arbitration, and appellate lawyers."
He is the second recent notable lateral hire for Haynes Boone in New York City, following Finance Counsel Leel Sinai, who joined the firm in November.
“Bringing Peter to Haynes Boone will help multiple practices operate at the highest level, as the firm continues to implement its expansion plans for New York,” Haynes Boone New York Office Managing Partner Craig Unterberg said. “Peter’s wide-ranging capabilities are a massive asset, as he has navigated complex matters throughout his career.”
“Peter is an award-winning insurance recovery litigator who has amassed an impressive track record, as well as thought leadership, in domestic and international arbitration,” Haynes Boone Insurance Recovery Chair Ernest Martin said. “His deep knowledge of both insurance and reinsurance litigation and arbitration makes him a go-to resource for clients as well as media.”
Outside of the office, Peter is an adjunct professor of law at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and spent the last eight years coaching Cardozo’s Willem C. Vis International Commercial Moot Arbitration team. Although he has recently retired from coaching, he continues to remain active as a mentor to current and former students, as well as the Moot Alumni Association Mentorship Programme.
Peter is a fellow in the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators as well as the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution. He is also an executive board member at the CyberEdBoard and a faculty member with the Global Cyber Institute.
