Haynes and Boone Transactions Honored with 2019 Americas M&A Atlas Awards

Three transactions handled by Haynes Boone lawyers were selected as middle-market “deals of the year” by the Global M&A Network.

Blucora acquires 1st Global

The Global M&A Network selected the following transaction as the U.S. Corporate M&A Deal of the Year (in the $100-$300 million category):

A Haynes Boone team led by Dallas Partner Jan Sharry represented Blucora Inc. in its acquisition of 1st Global Inc., a tax-focused wealth management company based in Dallas, for $180 million.

She was assisted by Partners Ryan Cox and Dan Malone and Associates Michael Pritchard, David Lightstone and Omar Shariff. New York Partners Madelyn Calabrese and Daren Domina advised Blucora on regulatory issues. Partners Paul Amiel and Sakina Foster and Associate Laura Shapiro advised the client on financing for the transaction. Partner Susan Wetzel, Counsel Chris Kang and Associate Scott Thompson advised Blucora on employee benefits and executive compensation matters.

Corporación POK acquired by Nucor Corporation

This transaction was selected as Mexico Deal of the Year (middle-market) by the Global M&A Network:

A multi-office team of lawyers led by Partner George Y. Gonzalez represented equity owners of Corporación POK, S.A. de C.V. (POK) in the sale of stock to Nucor Corporation (Nucor).

NRG Energy acquires retail electricity and natural gas assets of Stream Energy

The Global M&A Network selected the transaction as Energy M&A Deal of the Year (middle-market):

A Haynes Boone team led by Partner Bill Kleinman represented Stream Energy in the sale of its retail electricity and natural gas business to NRG Energy Inc. for $300 million plus working capital in an all-cash transaction.

Along with Bill Kleinman, Stream was represented by Haynes Boone Partner Jennifer Wisinski and Associates Brandon McCoy and Zach Burnett.
