April 08, 2024

Patexia Inc., a publisher of analysis and data-driven rankings about the intellectual property sector, has ranked Haynes Boone as one of the nation’s leading patent prosecution firms and has also ranked Partner David O’Dell, chair of the firm’s Patent Office Trials Practice Group, as the second-best patent attorney in the country.

In Patexia’s “2024 Patent Prosecution Intelligence Report,” Haynes Boone ranked as the third-best patent prosecution firm in the high-tech sector and the fourth-best performing firm overall, spanning all industries.

In measuring performance, Patexia considers how active and successful firms are in filing patent applications and obtaining patents or patent claims, along with the speed and efficiency of firms in obtaining a patent for the firm’s substantial roster of clients. The 2024 Intelligence Report is based on an analysis of patent activity from January 2019 through December 2023, during which, the USPTO issued 1,882,495 patents and published 1,990,642 applications.

Haynes Boone ranks among the top five law firms in terms of patent filings, serving esteemed clients like Intuitive Surgical, Nice Ltd., Overhead Door Company, PayPal and Salesforce. The team has achieved remarkable success, including securing an expedited Issue Notification in fewer than three months for Moser Energy Systems' latest EV charger controller patent application under the United States Patent and Trademark Office's Climate Change Mitigation Pilot Program.

Out of nearly 10,000 reviewed and ranked registered patent practitioners, Patexia ranked David O’Dell as the second-best patent attorney in the country. The report also notes Partners Greg Michelson, David O’Dell and Counsel Eric Li achieved win percentages at or exceeding 80 percent, placing them within the top one percent of all reviewed and ranked registered patent practitioners.

Ten attorneys from Haynes Boone were ranked among the most active and successful in the country, including Partners Jonathan Hallman, Jade Laye, Greg Michelson, David O’Dell, Vincent Shier and Gregory Webb, as well as Counsel Andrew Cohn, Daniel Kwok, Rachel Davis and Eric Li.

"We are honored to be recognized by Patexia as one of the nation's leading patent prosecution firms," said Patent Prosecution Practice Group Chair Jeff Wolfson. "This acknowledgment underscores our firm's commitment to excellence and the outstanding efforts of our entire patent prosecution team, along with the individual acknowledgement of so many of our patent practitioners.”

Haynes Boone’s Patent Prosecution and Counseling Practice Group has experience preparing and obtaining patents spanning numerous technologies, including medical devices, semiconductors, nanotechnology, oil well technology, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals, wireless technology, software and telecommunications networking equipment, among others.
