Haynes Boone CDG, LLP is pleased to announce that the fifth edition of “The Law of Shipbuilding Contracts”, the only current English law textbook specifically concerning shipbuilding, will be published in April 2020. The book is a long established guide (the first edition was published in 1991) which is used by shipping industry participants and their commercial and legal advisers worldwide. The new edition will update and expand the current fourth edition, which was published in 2012.
Senior Counsel of Haynes Boone’s London office, Simon Curtis, who was the sole author of the previous four editions, is being joined as authors of this latest edition by his fellow London partner William Cecil, and by Ian Gaunt, President of The London Maritime Arbitrators Association.
In addition to being a comprehensive resource on the law of shipbuilding contracts, the new edition will for the first time contain additional commentary on offshore construction contracts.
As for previous editions, the new edition will be relevant to:
- Purchasers and charterers of newbuilding tonnage.
- Shipbuilders and offshore construction yards.
- Lawyers and insurers working in the maritime, offshore oil and gas and construction sectors.
- Banks and other finance providers.
Simon Curtis said "I am delighted that Ian Gaunt and Will Cecil have agreed to be co-authors with me of the next edition of "The Law of Shipbuilding Contracts". They will bring substantial expertise and insights to this edition, which will both update the text in light of numerous shipbuilding judgments and awards since 2012, and expand its scope to encompass offshore construction issues.”
