Intellectual Property Partner Jeff Morton Joins Haynes Boone in Southern California

May 13, 2024

Haynes Boone is thrilled to welcome Partner Jeff Morton to the firm’s Orange County office and Intellectual Property Practice Group. Morton joins from Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP, where he was leader of the Life Sciences Group and co-leader of the Licensing and Technology Transactions Practice.

Residing in San Diego, Morton is an intellectual property lawyer with a focus on the life sciences industry, where he primarily spends time working for innovative companies on patent strategy and prosecution. Morton has also been involved in several high-stakes acquisitions in the life sciences industry.

“I am excited to join Haynes Boone and its collaborative culture,” Morton said. “The opportunity to help the firm expand its life sciences practice was a key factor, and I look forward to leveraging my experience to serve the firm’s clients."

Morton earned a Ph.D. in immunology before entering the legal field, originally practicing in Canada before moving to the United States a decade ago. He continues to do cross-border work with international clients, representing them in U.S. intellectual property matters.

Outside of the office, Morton is the current chair of the Intellectual Property Section of the San Diego County Bar Association, and volunteers with a number of local charitable organizations.

"We are delighted to welcome Jeff as our firm continues to strategically grow its footprint in Southern California,” said Orange County Office Managing Partner Greg Michelson. “Jeff’s deep understanding of the life sciences industry, especially in the hotbed of San Diego, will be invaluable as we continue to grow our office and our Life Sciences Practice Group."

Morton is the sixth partner to join Haynes Boone’s growing Orange County office since September, joining David Hengstler, Martin Florman, Paul Tobin, Elizabeth Weldon and Kevin Crisp.
