Haynes Boone Bolsters Pro Bono Program with Addition of Counsel Rachel Elkin

July 22, 2024

Haynes and Boone, LLP is delighted to welcome Pro Bono Counsel Rachel Elkin. She will help guide the firm’s global efforts to provide legal services to those most in need. Elkin joins after six years with Genesis Women’s Shelter & Support, where she was director of legal services, represented survivors of intimate partner violence and also worked with Haynes Boone as a pro bono partner.

In her role at Haynes Boone, Elkin is responsible for coordinating the firm’s pro bono efforts across all 19 offices, including initiatives with existing firm clients, and she will also train attorneys on pro bono matters and provide pro bono legal services directly to those in need of legal assistance.

“Having already worked with many of the lawyers at Haynes Boone, I am honored to join a firm that is renowned for its outstanding pro bono practice and dedication to community service,” Elkin said. “I look forward to working alongside such passionate and committed attorneys to expand our pro bono efforts and make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.”

After donating 16,000-plus hours to pro bono work across the firm in 2023, equaling $12.6 million in legal fees, Haynes Boone was recently named this year’s recipient of the prestigious W. Frank Newton Award on behalf of the State Bar of Texas and its Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee. The award honors dedicated members of the legal profession who are committed to providing legal services to the less fortunate in Texas.

“Adding Rachel will enhance our already well-established and recognized pro bono practice, and we could not be more excited to have her on board,” said Pro Bono Committee Co-Chair David Taubenfeld. “Her commitment to helping those in need is a perfect match for our efforts to assist and better the communities surrounding our 19 offices worldwide.”

Among the many highlights of the firm’s impactful pro bono work in recent years are helping First Transit Inc. increase its diversity objectives, the successful asylum of a persecuted Honduran family, donation of time to dozens of people with stigmatized criminal records at the Dallas County Expunction Expo and many more matters.
