April 02, 2025

Patexia Inc. has named Partner David O’Dell, chair of the firm’s Patent Office Trials Practice Group, the best-performing patent attorney in the country out of nearly 10,000 reviewed and ranked patent practitioners. The report also ranked Haynes Boone as one of the nation’s leading patent prosecution firms.

Patexia’s “2025 Patent Prosecution Intelligence Report” listed Haynes Boone as the second-best patent prosecution firm in the high-tech sector and the third-best performing firm overall.
O’Dell is one of 10 Haynes Boone attorneys ranked in this year’s report of the most active and successful attorneys in the country. The other ranked attorneys are Partners Brian Gustafson, Jonathan Hallman, Greg Michelson, Julie Nickols and Greg Webb, along with Counsels Andrew Cohn, Daniel Kwok and Eric Li and Patent Agent Jinrong Yuan.

In measuring performance, Patexia considers how active and successful firms are in filing patent applications and obtaining patents or patent claims, along with the speed and efficiency of firms in obtaining a patent for the firm’s substantial roster of clients. The 2025 Intelligence Report is based on an analysis of patent activity from January 2020 through December 2024, during which the USPTO issued 1,848,450 patents and published 2,097,958 applications.

In addition to Patexia, The Patent Lawyer ranked Haynes Boone among the top law firms in the world for its work in the patent field in the 2025 Patent Lawyer Law Firm Rankings. The firm placed in the top 10 of the magazine’s North America – South region.

The annual rankings are based on extensive criteria, including market reputation, achievements within the last year, strengths, accessibility, client testimonials, firm-created thought leadership, website quality, DEI, other third-party rankings and involvement in legal associations and conferences.

"We are proud yet humbled to be recognized by Patexia and The Patent Lawyer as one of the nation’s top patent prosecution firms," said Patent Prosecution and Counseling Practice Group Chair Jeff Wolfson. "This recognition highlights our firm’s dedication to excellence on behalf of our clients, the exceptional work of our entire patent prosecution and patent trial teams to drive innovation through quality patents, as well as the individual achievements of many of our talented practitioners."

Haynes Boone’s Patent Prosecution and Counseling Practice Group has experience preparing and obtaining patents spanning numerous technologies.
