In recognition of its accomplishments and forward thinking related to diversity and inclusion, Haynes Boone is a proud recipient of the 2017 Diversity Leadership Award from PracticePro.
The award was presented at PracticePro’s Fourth Annual San Francisco Career Conference and Diversity Reception, which was attended by law students, attorneys, and corporate executives from across the country. The event also featured a keynote speech from Iris Chen, the vice president of legal for Google.
The Diversity Leadership Award recipient is selected based on a firm’s overall track record with diversity initiatives; demonstrated use of innovative methods of recruiting and developing diverse talent; and providing invaluable support for PracticePro's nationwide Diversity Scholars program.
“We are honored to receive this award in recognition of Haynes Boone’s continued commitment to diversity and inclusion,” said Partner Brian Kwok, who accepted the award on behalf of the firm. “We are also humbled by the achievements of the Diversity Scholars and the rich contributions they will make to our legal community.”
The PracticePro Diversity Scholar Program is an all-inclusive training and coaching program, striving to help train practice-ready diverse attorneys. First-year law students who are accepted into the program attend conferences and training seminars to learn both soft skills and practical competencies required of attorneys in their early years of practice. The program also provides scholars with career coaching to help them navigate law school, interviews, networking, and long-term career planning.
“Haynes Boone is showing unparalleled leadership in improving diversity in the law," said Niki Moore, the founder and CEO of PracticePro. “Among many other outstanding qualities, their willingness to take innovative approaches to recruit diverse talent as well as their commitment to developing young lawyers demonstrates their passion and dedication to moving the needle and making a tangible impact. No firm has been more instrumental in helping us grow the Diversity Scholars Program and I cannot think of a more deserving recipient of our inaugural award.”
The driving force behind Haynes Boone’s diversity and inclusion efforts is the Attorney Diversity and Inclusion Committee (ADIC). Composed of partners, associates, counsel and key members of management, the committee has enacted diversity and equality-related firm policies and programs, as well as implemented innovative initiatives designed to drive minority and female hiring and retention. The ADIC is comprised of several outstanding sub-committees that include Women Attorney Initiatives, Minority Attorney Initiatives, LGBT and Allies Attorney Initiatives, Pipeline Initiatives, Working Parents, Recruiting and Retention, and Business Development, all designed to develop and promote diversity and inclusion as a collective and sustained focus.
