Haynes Boone is proud to announce the firm ranked 21st nationally in The American Lawyer’s 2023 Diversity Scorecard, which graded 228 American law firms by the diversity of their attorney populations. This marks an impressive improvement from 2022’s already commendable ranking of 68th overall.
The American Lawyer takes a nuanced approach to these rankings, including firms’ “percentage of racial and ethnic diversity across lawyer head count by role; leadership of the executive committee, offices and practice and industry groups; and their hiring, retention and promotion of diverse talent.”
Haynes Boone is one of only two Texas-headquartered firms in the top 50 of the rankings. It specifically earned high marks for minorities in leadership positions, recent minority partner promotions, indigenous, Hispanic American, Middle Eastern and North African people in equity partnership as well as indigenous people in non-equity partner roles.
“This high ranking is a testament to our hard work every single day to prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion in all facets of our business operations,” said Haynes Boone Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer Sharon Jones. “We know that the legal industry lags behind corporate America in diversity metrics, and while we are happy with our progress as a firm, we will not rest on our laurels, as we continue putting DEI at the forefront of everything we do.”
In 2022, the year the American Lawyer rankings reflect, Haynes Boone earned Mansfield Rule 5.0 certification, showing the firm considered at least 30% of candidates from underrepresented groups for leadership roles, lateral hiring promotions into equity partnership and participation in client pitch meetings. That same year, the incoming partner class was comprised of 69% women and 62% minorities. The firm also launched a DEI billable credit and bonus policy that awards billable-hours credit for advancing the firm's diversity, equity and inclusion goals.
Haynes Boone is an international law firm with 19 offices spanning Texas, New York, California, Charlotte, Chicago, Denver, Virginia, Washington, D.C., London, Mexico City and Shanghai, providing a full spectrum of legal services in energy, technology, financial services, real estate, litigation, and private equity.
