The International Trademark Association (INTA) recognized Haynes and Boone, LLP Counsel Jason Whitney as a 2024 Rising Star.
The Rising Star program launched in 2022 with the goal of discovering and nurturing future leaders and contributors in the intellectual property (IP) field. INTA leadership chose this year’s Rising Stars because they are members who contribute to the IP profession and INTA with their leadership and IP skills. These individuals exemplify excellence through their achievements within or outside of the association by speaking at events, authoring articles on current IP topics, and joining project teams and committees.
Whitney is a counsel in the Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group in the firm’s San Antonio office. He is an experienced litigator and registered patent attorney, counseling clients from small to large in obtaining, protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights. He has argued patent disputes before the International Trade Commission, defended clients in trademark and copyright lawsuits in various federal courts, and prosecuted patents and trademarks before the Patent and Trademark Office. Whitney advocates for his clients in complex intellectual property matters and develops innovative solutions for difficult business problems.
Whitney has assisted clients in patent infringement and inventorship lawsuits, Lanham Act trademark cases, and copyright suits. He also represents clients in intellectual property administrative proceedings, including trademark cancellations, trademark oppositions, patent reexaminations and domain name disputes. In addition to his litigation experience, Whitney has filed dozens of trademark applications, prepared and prosecuted patent and copyright applications, and drafted licenses, technology development agreements, website privacy agreements, website terms of use and electronic financial transaction agreements.
Whitney’s ranking was preceded by Joseph Lawlor’s, who was recognized as an INTA Rising Star in 2023.
