Haynes Boone Participating in Hackathon to Tackle Tough Equity and Inclusion Challenges in Law

June 10, 2024

Haynes Boone is participating in Diversity Lab’s “Moments to Movements Hackathon,” which will bring together law firm partners, legal department leaders and industry experts working in small teams to find solutions for all lawyers to have an equal opportunity to thrive and advance. Partner Tom Chen will represent Haynes Boone throughout the five-month program.

From March through July 2024, these leaders will work together in small teams to collaborate, ideate and offer sustainable and scalable solutions to the following Hackathon challenges:

  • Community: How can we defend and fortify DEI across the profession and in each organization to withstand downturns, leadership changes, anti-DEI rhetoric and other headwinds
  • Inclusive Talent Systems: How can we improve workplace practices and processes to ensure fair and equal access to high-quality work, sponsors and business/clients to level the playing field for all talent, including historically underrepresented lawyers?

"Participating in the Moments to Movements Hackathon underscores our commitment to creating a truly inclusive legal profession,” said Haynes Boone Chief DEI Officer Sharon Jones. “As a firm, we believe that by working together, we can develop innovative solutions that ensure equal opportunities for all lawyers to succeed."

Multiple organizations have recognized Haynes Boone as a leader in inclusivity in the legal profession, having received the 2023 Compass Award from the Leadership Council for Legal Diversity for its involvement in LCLD and the promotion of LCLD’s mission of an inclusive legal profession. The firm also achieved Mansfield 6.0 Plus certification this past fall for accomplishing more than a dozen key goals.
