March 04, 2025

Following decades providing clients with practical legal and business solutions in stressed and distressed corporate situations, Haynes Boone has formally launched its international, interdisciplinary Distressed Transactions Practice Group.

The group, co-led by Dallas Partner Eli Columbus and Houston Partner Neal Kaminsky, is built on the foundation of multiple Chambers-ranked practices, including restructuring, finance, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, investment management, energy, real estate, litigation and tax law to maximize opportunities and manage risks for clients.

“With increasing economic uncertainty and shifting market dynamics, our clients need innovative, value-maximizing strategies to navigate distressed transactions,” Kaminsky said. “This official formation of this group allows us to provide a more comprehensive and coordinated approach to helping businesses, lenders, investors and other stakeholders manage complex financial and operational challenges.”

The group is uniquely positioned to handle distressed deals across borders, with attorneys in the United States, Mexico City and London. The group advises on a full spectrum of transactions, including:

  • Business restructurings, reorganizations and recapitalizations
  • Loan workouts and liability management transactions
  • Distressed lending, including bridge, rescue, acquisition, DIP and exit financing
  • Distressed mergers and acquisitions
  • Debt, equity and claims trading

“Our team understands the critical challenges that arise in distressed situations,” Columbus added. “We combine legal experience with business acumen to help clients identify and execute strategic solutions that protect value and minimize risk.”

With 67 lawyers spanning multiple jurisdictions, the group is prepared to advise a diverse client base, including lenders, agents, distressed companies and their boards, management, owners, strategic and financial buyers, sellers and investors.
