Ben Mesches, a leader of Haynes Boone’s Appellate Practice Group and member of the firm's board of directors, assumed the role of firm general counsel on Jan. 1, 2025.
Mesches succeeds Stacy Brainin, who has served as General Counsel since 2007 and transitions from the role after nearly two decades of exceptional service.
Haynes Boone’s Appellate Practice Group has consistently received national awards under Mesches’ leadership, and Chambers USA has routinely recognized Mesches throughout his more than two decades of litigation work. Mesches will maintain his appellate practice as he serves in this new role.
During her tenure as general counsel, Stacy Brainin fostered a culture of compliance and integrity at the firm while maintaining a thriving practice. Brainin has received repeated awards and recognitions for her work representing healthcare providers and corporations as well as serving as trusted counsel in white-collar criminal defense cases and government investigations. She will continue her role as a leading partner at the firm, bringing her extensive experience to a wide range of legal matters.
“Ben has earned the trust and respect of our partners through his thoughtful leadership and commitment to our values,” said Haynes Boone Managing Partner Taylor Wilson. “His ability to navigate complex legal challenges while fostering collaboration and innovation makes him the perfect fit for this position. At the same time, we’re profoundly grateful to Stacy Brainin, whose judgment, ethics and commitment to excellence have helped shape who we are as a firm.”
“It’s an honor to take on the role of general counsel at Haynes Boone,” Mesches said. “Stacy has been an extraordinary leader and mentor, setting the highest standards for this role. Her guidance has been invaluable, and I look forward to building on her legacy.”
Mesches earned his juris doctorate from The University of Texas School of Law, graduating with honors and as a member of the Texas Law Review, and he received his bachelor of arts in political science from Trinity University, graduating cum laude.
