Global M&A Network recognized Haynes Boone and Denver Office Managing Partner Dan Malone as international leaders in mergers and acquisitions at its 15th Annual M&A Atlas Awards Gala on Jan. 30 in New York City.
Malone was named a Top 50: Americas M&A Dealmaker, recognizing his work and experience in multi-billion-dollar transactions. Haynes Boone won two other M&A Atlas Awards for large-scale transactions spanning multiple industries.
The firm received the award for Global Private Equity M&A Deal of the Year (Large Market) for its representation of Blucora, Inc. in the $720 million sale of the company’s tax software business, TaxAct, Inc. to an affiliate of Cinven, Ltd. a UK-based private equity fund.
Following the sale’s close, Blucora rebranded as Avantax, and last year, Haynes Boone guided Avantax, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVTA) through a strategic take-private sale to Aretec Group, Inc., the holding company of Cetera Financial Group, Inc. Cetera executed an all-cash acquisition of Avantax's outstanding shares, totaling approximately $1.2 billion.
Haynes Boone was also awarded Deal of the Year – Metals which recognized the firm’s counsel of Commercial Metals Company (NYSE: CMC) through its acquisition of metal recycling company Roane Metals Group LLC. The deal significantly improved the supply of materials for Commercial Metals Company’s steelmaking operation.
