Haynes and Boone Bolsters Energy Practice With Office in The Woodlands

June 01, 2018

Haynes Boone is opening an office in The Woodlands, a fast-growing corporate hub near Houston.

The new office, the firm’s 16th worldwide, will allow Haynes Boone to better serve its clients, including those with offices in The Woodlands, which is home to many major energy and oilfield services companies. Haynes Boone joins only a handful of the nation’s largest law firms with an office in The Woodlands.

“Our new office in The Woodlands represents a further commitment to our Energy Practice, which is a core sector for our firm,” Managing Partner Tim Powers said. “We recently added exceptional partners with deep roots in both the energy markets and The Woodlands, so this office is a true example of opportunity and strategy coming together.”

Craig Stahl, a partner in the firm’s Litigation Practice, will serve as administrative partner for The Woodlands office.

“Because Haynes Boone is a significant player in the energy markets, it makes strategic sense for the firm to have an office in The Woodlands,” said Stahl, who has served as lead counsel for oil and gas producers in many high-stakes cases.

Stahl initially will be joined in The Woodlands office by Partner Bill McDonald, a corporate lawyer with significant experience representing clients in the energy and oilfield services industries; Partner Jeff Kuehnle, a commercial litigator who also primarily represents oil and gas clients; and Counsel Emmie Gooch, another energy litigator. The office will grow as strategic opportunities arise.

The new Haynes Boone office will be located in Waterway Square, the central business district of The Woodlands. “It will be a very convenient location for us to meet and do business with clients,” Stahl said.

Haynes Boone’s Energy Practice Group handles significant transactions and litigation, as well as financings, capital markets, commodities and regulatory advice, for a diverse array of industry clients in the United States and abroad. With offices in many of the major energy capitals of the world, Haynes Boone knows the markets, the players and the industry. The firm’s clients include independent U.S. oil and gas producers, major international oil companies, global commodity traders and domestic power companies, along with commercial lenders and private equity firms that are leaders in providing capital to the industry.

Legal news website Above the Law ranked Haynes Boone among the top 10 U.S. energy law firms, based on a survey of in-house counsel in the energy industry in 2018. In 2017, legal research firm BTI Consulting Group, Inc. designated Haynes Boone as a “Leading Recommended” firm for the energy industry, ranking among the top three percent of all law firms in the field.
