Hunt Buckley and Jorge Sanchez Named Among Top Lawyers in Latin America

The Latin American Corporate Counsel Association (LACCA) has recognized Haynes Boone Senior Counsel Hunt Buckley as one of the top energy lawyers in Latin America and Counsel Jorge Sanchez as one of the top corporate and M&A lawyers in Latin America.

LACCA is comprised of leading in-house counsel in Latin America. Hunt and Jorge will be featured on the organization’s 2024 list of approved external counsel, which is based on months of research drawn from LACCA members’ votes and referrals.

Hunt, who has been on the approved counsel list since 2015, has more than 35 years of experience in international and domestic transactions, focused primarily on the energy industry. He has represented international and domestic energy and telecommunications companies and service providers, project developers, financial institutions, and domestic and foreign investors in various projects Latin America and elsewhere. He is currently located in the firm’s Mexico City office and is intimately involved with Mexican energy reform. He has handled a variety of oil and gas exploration and production transactions, agreements, and bids, as well as pipeline transactions, bids, and contracts.

Jorge has more than 25 years of experience advising foreign and domestic clients, many of which are Fortune 500 companies in a wide range of corporate and financial matters, including equity, asset financing and leasing transactions, structured and commodity finance, public procurement, M&A, joint ventures, antitrust, mining and natural resources. In the area of mining, Jorge is acknowledged for handling multi-jurisdictional mining transactions involving complex takeovers, acquisitions, disposals, project financings, mining deals with distressed situations, debt refinancings, initial exploration and claim staking, joint ventures, operations and closures, regulatory and compliance issues, and community issues.

Hunt and Jorge’s LACCA recognition is the latest in a string of honors for the firm’s growing Mexico City office, which has added three partners in 2023. Latinvex recently ranked Haynes Boone as one of the top international law firms and Partner Patricia Mastropierro as one of the top 100 female lawyers in Latin America.
