08/19/2009

NEW YORK – Against the backdrop of their return visit to the New York Mets at Citi Field Aug. 22 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their improbable World Series win over the Baltimore Orioles, the players and coaches that comprised the 1969 Mets have announced their intention to once again incorporate Miracle of 1969 Enterprises to pursue licensing, sponsorship, endorsement and appearance opportunities.

The venture’s president will be Ron Swoboda, whose miraculous game-saving catch in Game 5 is considered to be one of the greatest catches in Fall Classic history.

“We are excited that the Mets have invited us to Citi Field to celebrate our 40th anniversary and that they . are supporting our efforts to re-launch Miracle of 1969 Enterprises,” said Ron Swoboda. “We’ve got a strong and representative contingent of former players that will work with the Mets and Haynes and Boone to maximize this experience for our fans, the city of New York and the New York Mets franchise.”

In addition to the festivities planned at Citi Field Aug. 22, Miracle of 1969 Enterprises members will be participating in other events around the tri-state area, including an Aug. 23 card-signing event staged by MAB Celebrity Services in conjunction with JP's Sports at the Huntington Hilton in Melville, NY.
Ron Swoboda also stated that the team is entertaining documentary offers as well as a 1969 Mets exhibit that would allow fans an opportunity to step back in time and relive that historic year, which included man landing on the moon, the Vietnam War, the Flower Power movement and Woodstock. Locker Room Memorabilia, a Tampa-based company, will also assist in the marketing of the team.

The venture will be represented by attorney Ed Schauder, who heads the Sports and Entertainment Practice Group at the law firm Haynes and Boone LLP, and spearheaded the successful marketing efforts behind the 1969 Mets 25th anniversary in 1994.

“We are delighted to be associated with the team that orchestrated one of the greatest upsets in World Series history,” said Mr. Schauder, “We hope to surpass the 25th anniversary outcome, which brought in more than $1 million for charity, and was economically successful for the players. The players are looking forward to once again participate in fan friendly events and create unique and commemorative products to honor this historic team.”

Mr. Schauder said the firm’s lawyers will assist living players, the 1969 team coaches and the estates of deceased players in capitalizing on sponsorship, licensing and endorsement opportunities. Mr. Schauder noted that “By organizing the players, licensees and corporate sponsors have the ability to secure the rights to the members of the team with one phone call.”
